Earlier this month LTA had the pleasure of hosting a lunch and learn event with Schellman & Company on, Contracts and Compliance in the GDPR Era at the Mid-America Club in downtown Chicago. Attendees had time to network, followed by lunch while Joel Schneider, President of LTA moderated the discussion with Debbie Zaller, a partner at Schellman & Company and Bruce Fox, a partner at the Chicago-based law firm Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg LLP.
With data protection being top of mind and new regulations going into effect, we discussed the European Union’s General Data Privacy Regulation (GDPR) and how it compares with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
A few main points we touched upon were:
- The general requirements of GDPR and CCPA
- The impacts on privacy for an individual and organizations
- GDPR obligations of data controllers and processors
- How these regulations affect US based companies who have a presence overseas
- Items to consider with data protection agreements
It is imperative more than ever to make sure you are staying informed on data privacy protection. Data privacy protection is here, and it looks like it’s here to stay. Companies can no longer sit with their heads in the sand, we are finding out these new regulations require the ability to look back at your consumer data.
